Stitches and rows from your gauge

Count the stitches and rows on your swatch. Tricotta works out how many stitches and rows you need for a width and a length, and how much a number of stitches or rows measures. You can also bring a pattern written for another gauge onto yours.

Your swatch

From measurements to stitches and rows

From stitches and rows to measurements

From a pattern to your gauge

That makes 7 stitches and 10 rows to the inch.

  • For 20 in you need 140 stitches.
  • For 24 in you need 240 rows.
  • 150 stitches measure 21⅜ in.
  • 200 rows measure 20 in.
  • Where the pattern says 120 stitches, you work 153.
  • Where the pattern says 180 rows, you work 240.

Count the stitches and rows in the middle of the swatch, because they are less even at the edges. Wash it or let it rest first, as you will do with the garment.

When you bring a pattern onto your gauge, the measurements stay those of the pattern and only the numbers change. Work out the decreases again with your numbers. Work out where to decrease or increase

Tricotta works out whole garments for your size and your machine, with every decrease already in place. For now the application is by invitation.
